Gin Basil

The classic Gin Basil recipe, also known as a Gin Basil Smash, is a refreshing and herbaceous cocktail that balances the botanical notes of gin with fresh basil and zesty lemon.
Main Alcohol: Gin
Ingredients:
- 60 ml Gin
- 30 ml fresh lemon juice
- 20 ml simple syrup
- 10 large fresh basil leaves, plus a sprig for garnish
Instructions:
- Muddle the basil. Place the basil leaves in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Add the lemon juice and simple syrup. Gently muddle the leaves by pressing and twisting them a few times to release their aromatic oils. Avoid over-muddling, as this can release bitter flavors.
- Add gin and ice. Pour the gin into the shaker. Fill the shaker halfway with ice.
- Shake. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds, or until the outside of the shaker is frosty.
- Strain and serve. Fill a rocks glass with fresh ice. "Double strain" the cocktail into the glass, using both the shaker's built-in strainer and a small fine-mesh strainer to catch any small basil bits.
- Garnish. Garnish with a fresh sprig of basil before serving.
Served: On the rocks; poured over ice.
Standard garnish: Basil Leaves
Drinkware: A rocks glass (also known as an old-fashioned glass or tumbler)
